TripitakaThe Tripitaka is a teaching that was made in the older days close to centuries. Most Buddhists use these teachings in their everyday life in their prayers. The Tripitaka was written in the third century according to the Buddhist tradition. Tripitaka has a meaning of 'three baskets' from how it was recorded originally in the older century times. The Tripitaka is what builds up Theravada Buddhism and is a religious text that they look upon. Tripitaka is also known as the Pali Canon and these build up of different language texts that was found in Theravada Buddhism.

Mahayana SutrasThe Mahayana Sutras are also teachings and stories that also reflects and links back to the Tripitaka. The Mahayana Sutras is mostly used for the Mahayana Buddhists and is very sacred to them. In the Mahayana tradition they have many practices that are joint with Theravada Buddhism but are sometimes different. The Mahayana tradition informs most buddhists on the history of Buddha.
